Meet Kathy and Roy

example graphic

Kathy found herself withdrawing from Roy, she lost her passion for ministry, and cried most days. She slept a lot, stopped taking care of the household and her marriage began feeling taxed. Kathy went to her physician for a routine check up and treatment of Fibromyalgia. Her physician asked her to complete a depression screen. To Kathy's surprise, she screened positive for depression and she agreed with her physicians advice to meet with Stephanie at the Senior Impact Program. Kathy engaged in treatment and after a medication adjustment and some supprotive counseling, Kathy, and Roy, began feeling hope again.

Roy is Kathy's devoted husband and has a very interesting view of Kathy's recovery. He openly admits the depression Kathy expereinced had a huge impact on his life. When she didn't pull herself of of depression, he simply didn't know what to do to help her. As a man and a provider, he wanted to fix things for her, but couldn't, which drove him into depression. Roy learned that asking for help isn't a sign of failure, in fact, many things are bigger than you.

Kathy and Roy began seeing results several weeks into treatment. Now, they can joke that they feel like they did at the age of 40. they are active in the ministry again, and avid advocates of the Senior Impact Program.

Meet Dorothy

example graphic

Dorothy relocated to Indianapolis for work. Shortly thereafter, she found herself unemployed, living in an uncomforatble environment, and depressed. She found it very hard to get out of bed, had lost touch with loved ones, and felt very much alone.

Her physician recognized Dorothy's situation and referred her to The Senior Impact Program. Dorothy welcomed the support but attributes her real motivation to a friendly bird. She tells a story about a bird who, at first, sang outside her bedroom window every morning eventaully driving Dorothy out of bed each day. As time passed, Dorothy grew accustomed to the singing and stayed in bed. The more Dorothy tried to ignore the bird, the more the bird increased its efforts, until that determined bird was pecking on Dorothy's window.

Dorothy realized if God can use something as simple as a bird to get her out of bed ever day, there must bea reason. With the help of the Senior Impact progmra, Dorothy began using her time to help others by calling loved ones to check on them, donating time to her church, and looking for work. Today, Dorothy works for the Senior Impact Program as a Peer Specialist. She uses her God given talents and her experience in recovery to help other senior citizens identify and recover from depression.

Meet Susan

example graphic

Susan spent much of her life building her career as a Nurse. When she became disabled and could not work anymore, she found herself slipping into depression, spending a lot of time alone and focused on her disability. She experienced thoughts of hurting herself and hopelessness. From her nursing background, she knew the signs of depression, but didn't know where to turn until she saw a program highlighted on WTHR. In the broadcast, she saw the stories of real senior citizens who's lives were positively impacted by The Senior Impact Program. She called Senior Impact and engaged in treatment right away.

Susan now has her depression under control and enjoys life. while she attributes much of her recovery to Senior Impact, she is modest about the fact she has worked very hard to get where she is today.
